One time, I was consulted by a famous artist and he wanted to draw a painting of an event in Texas history. And so he said, “Can you describe this particular thing?” So, I read every existing account about it. There were three major accounts, and would you believe me? Every one of them said the people involved were wearing a different kind of costume. ((Weary Light)) These are contemporary accounts. I just pass that on, because I say — there is a German historian said that we could never get exactly the way it was, “Wie es gewesen.” In other words, you can never get history exactly the way it was, but we have to try to put forth our vision of it and our grasp of it. This is what I try to do.
