I get very frustrated by people more like the Taliban who seem to think it’s one or the other, and I have great respect, although he’s not a neuroscientist, for Francis Collins, for example, who is a very talented geneticist as you may know, who makes it very clear he’s a very committed Christian. And I think that the issue of faith and belief and how it works and what it does within the human mind, I think, are fascinating areas.1 And I think the people that dismiss anyone religious as stupid and wrong are themselves, I’d say, showing about the same flexibility as fundamentalists.2 And Michael Faraday had a wonderful — he said “There’s nothing quite as frightening as somebody who knows they’re right.”3
