I think humanity is like a big pool, it’s like a big, muddy pool.1 And then every now and then, someone comes around with a stick. Somehow it happens and sometimes it won’t. Sometimes somebody will poke a hole in the bottom of the pool and all the water will disappear and sometimes rain turns up out of the blue, nobody planned it. Here’s the rain, back to normal — there’s no progress. We’re just rattle along with this kind of deranged idea that we are the masters of our opportunities, and we’re not.
