From my perspective, there’s a big difference between religions that — the modern monotheistic religions, which tend to have a hierarchical and authoritarian structure, where knowledge is held in secret as you go through higher levels of a priest class. ((Liberation Theology)) And the indigenous tribal cultures where they can have secret societies and stuff like the Hopi do, but essentially the idea is more based around the individual initiation, so that young men actually have to undergo some type of initiatory process in order to be able to access the sort of not ordinary states of consciousness, whether through plant sacraments or through fasting and some ordeal or the sun ceremonies, obviously, the Sun Dance. ((Ubiquitous As The Air)) So, to me, there’s a lot of difference between the modern monotheistic religions and the indigenous spiritual practices. ((Every Sunday))
