I do know that the first time I met him, I kissed his hand. And even though it dreadfully embarrassed everybody around me, I’m still glad I did it. But we had met a couple of years earlier. And you know, he was just a great, great guy, and an extraordinary poet, just an extraordinary poet. And he’s still — he still got into me. I still feel his presence when I sit down and write. The day he died, I had mentioned him in a poem, and he’s — yeah, he just feels like one of, you know, a living spirit beside me. And you know, so does Jim Tate, and it’s — I refuse to accept that these poets are going extinct. They’re far too great for that.
